SHOPPING FOR FOOD:
Most of our guests prefer to stop over in Dumfries or Castle Douglas on their way to the cottages¸for a last "big shop" at a large branch of Morrison's or Tesco's.

Newton Stewart (22 miles from the Isle of Whithorn) you'll find Sainsbury's and an Aldi.
Stranraer (31 miles from the Isle of Whithorn) you'll find most shops i.e Morrison, Tesco, Lidl, Boots and WHSmith.

LOCALLY:
Whithorn: Costcutters, Galloway Grengrocers and Ravenstone's Deli (for organic, and organic produce)
Isle of Whithorn: Sub Post Office keeps papers and basic supplies, Shaun's Fish (on harbour) sells fish and lobster when in season.

SNACKS/EATING OUT:
Isle of Whithorn: The SteamPacket (pub/restaurant), Queen's Arms (pub only)
Whithorn: Central Café(fish and chips /Italian ice-cream)
Port William: The Clansman (restaurant)

BEACHES/WALKS:
Morrach Farm: follow the coastline from the Isle of Whithorn to St Ninian's Cave.
Rigg Bay: walk through the lovely gardens of Galloway House, Garlieston to a vast sandy beach with rock pools teeming with shrimp, crab and all sorts of tiny creatures when the tide is out! Children just love it!
Saint Medan's Cove: (nr St Medan's Golf Course) Clear water for an enjoyable swim!
Saint Ninian's Cave: A lovely walk through woodland and then pebbled beach towards the dwelling of the 8th century saint.
Kilsture Forest: (nr Sorbie) A signposted walk through mature woodland, good for walking dogs or spotting the occasional deer on the deer trail… A carpet of bluebells in the spring!
Glentrool Forest/Bruces Stone:  (nr Newton Stewart) Perfect for a walk or picnic…but beware the midges!
